What Self Love Actually Looks Like in Real Life

I used to have this grand idea of what my life would be like if I finally loved myself. I thought I’d be fit, have perfect hair and skin, wear the cutest clothes, wake up early every morning, make healthy breakfasts, and somehow have my entire life perfectly together. I thought I’d feel confident every single day and never question who I was. For a long time, I believed self love looked like perfection. But now that I’m finally at a place where I can honestly say I do love myself, I’ve realized something important: That version of self love doesn’t really exist. Or at least not in the way social media tries to sell it to us.

Self Love Isn’t Perfection

Real self love is much quieter than that. It’s not waking up every day feeling beautiful and confident. It’s not always loving what you see in the mirror. It’s not having perfect routines or never struggling mentally. Real self love is learning how to be softer with yourself on the hard days. Because even now, there are still days where I don’t feel good enough. Days where I feel behind, overwhelmed, insecure, or disconnected from myself. The difference is that now, instead of tearing myself apart for it, I listen.

So What Does Self Love Actually Look Like?

It looks like choosing rest when your body needs it. It looks like nourishing yourself because you deserve to feel good, not because you’re trying to punish yourself into becoming smaller. It’s eating ice cream with your family because you’re fully present in the moment and allowing yourself joy without guilt. It’s moving your body because you appreciate it, not because you hate it. It’s setting boundaries. Taking breaks. Speaking kindly to yourself. Allowing yourself to exist in photos and memories. Choosing what’s truly best for you instead of constantly trying to earn your worth. Self love is balance. And honestly, I think self love is quiet.

Why Boudoir Can Feel So Emotional

I think that’s one of the reasons boudoir sessions can feel so emotional for so many women. Not because they suddenly become someone new during their session, but because they finally allow themselves to see the version of themselves everyone else already sees.

Beautiful. Strong. Soft. Powerful. Human.

Almost every client tells me beforehand:

“I’m so nervous.”

And almost every client says afterward:

“I can’t believe that’s me.”

Not because the camera changed them.

But because, for maybe the first time in a long time, they stopped picking themselves apart long enough to actually see themselves clearly.

You Don’t Have to Earn Celebration

If you’ve been waiting to feel confident enough, worthy enough, pretty enough, or “fixed” enough before doing something for yourself, let this be your reminder:

You do not have to earn celebration.

You are already deserving of it.

Maybe self love isn’t becoming fearless.

Maybe it’s simply deciding you are worthy right now.

And if boudoir is something you’ve been curious about, I’d love to help you experience that version of yourself too.
